敲竹槓 a rip-off
旅遊中購物、搭計程車都常常會遇到被敲竹槓的情形,這種時候你就可以用 rip-off 來表示「敲竹槓」。若要形容「A 被 B 敲竹槓」的情況,可以用被動句型 A + be + ripped off by B 或主動句型 B rip A off 這兩種方式表示。

燒錢;揮霍 splash out the money
我們常常會一邊花錢開玩笑說自己是在「燒錢」,那麼英文的燒錢又是怎麼說呢?常見的用法是 splash out the money。直翻是「把錢潑出去」,很像在形容一個撒 (splash) 錢的動作,表示揮霍了大量的金錢, 通常是表示開心爽快地把錢揮霍在一些非必要的物品上。

買到手軟為止 shop till you drop
Shop till you drop 是一個諺語,其中的 till 是 until (直到) 的縮寫,同時以 drop 表示 「手軟」或是「陣亡」的語意,所以結合起來的意思就是「買到手軟為止」,這句話也常常被拿來做廣告詞。後來它又有延伸的語意,表示「堅持做一件事直到不行為止」。
