要表示「A 由 B 組成」的時候，除了常見的 be made up of 以外，還有幾個常常讓人搞混的字，一起來看看你有沒有這種疑問：
老師您好，我最近看到 consist 也有表示「組成」的意思，那我是不是可以這樣說：The class is consisted of 18 boys and 16 girls. 另外請問，compose 也是一樣意思的字，那我應該也可以說：The class is composed of 18 boys and 16 girls. 這樣對吧？！
先賣個關子，乍看之下 consist、comprise 以及 compose 同樣都表示「組成」，但這三個字仍常讓人摸不著頭緒，今天跟著希平方一舉擊破它們的用法吧！
consist 怎麼用
Consist 的用法是 consist of，要注意這個字不會使用被動語態，所以並沒有 be consisted of (X) 的用法喔，直接說「整體 consist of 部分」就可以了，例如：
Our team consists of the best players in the nation.（我們隊伍由國內最厲害的選手們所組成。）
This report consists of three parts, and I'll elaborate on them one by one.（這份報告由三個部分所組成，我會一一說明它們。）
所以前面這位同學問的：The class is consisted of 18 boys and 16 girls.
要改成主動語態才正確喔：The class consists of 18 boys and 16 girls.（這班由 18 個男生及 16 個女生所組成。）
comprise 怎麼用
Comprise 同樣是指「組成、構成」，但 comprise 是個比 consist 更正式一點的字，而且 comprise 主動及被動語態用法可以用，所以可以是「整體 comprise 部分」，也可以是「整體 be comprised of 部分」，例如：
Our branch in Thailand comprises 120 employees.（我們在泰國的分公司由 120 位員工組成。）
Generally speaking, the human body is mainly comprised of water.（大致上來說，人體主要是由水所組成。）
