6. Cut the mustard
Mustard 的意思是芥末，那什麼是切芥末呀？Cut the mustard 的意思是「合乎標準」，而這俚語的由來眾說紛紜，比較常見的是 cut the mustard 與軍中用語 “pass the muster” 有關，它的意思是「通過檢驗」，另外要注意哦！這個俚語比較常出現在否定句裡。
The boss fired him because he couldn’t cut the mustard.
因為表現不好，他被老闆裁掉了。
7. Apple of somebody’s eye
有聽過這說法嗎？前幾年有部火紅的國片《那些年，我們一起追的女孩》，它的英文片名正是 “You are the apple of my eye”！這說法最早起於聖經，而莎士比亞也使用過這句，它的真正意思指的是「珍愛的人」，記得 eye 後面不加 “s”！
I brought her up like the apple of my eye.
我視她為掌上明珠並將她撫養長大。
8. Bread and butter
麵包奶油，這對西方人來說可是每天都會接觸到的食物，而 bread and butter 這俚語指的就是「收入來源、謀生之道」！
Selling flowers in the neighborhood is her bread and butter.
在社區裡賣花是她的謀生之道。
9. Cool as a cucumber
小黃瓜很酷嗎？怎麼會跟小黃瓜比較呀？這句俚語的意思是「保持鎮定」，它的由來據說是取了 cool 其中「清涼」的含意，而由於小黃瓜摸起來本身比較清涼，字首也同為 “c”，才會用小黃瓜做為比喻噢！
Despite the accident, Calvin was as cool as a cucumber.
儘管發生了意外，Calvin 依舊保持著鎮定。
10. Spill the beans
把豆子撒了出來？這是什麼意思呢？Spill the beans 的意思就是「洩漏秘密」。相傳在古希臘有許多神秘的團體集會，每當有新成員要加入時，大家總會用黑白豆子進行表決，而有次裝豆子的罐子被打翻了，最高機密也跟著洩漏啦！因此才有 “spill the beans” 的說法，很有趣對吧！
It’s a surprise party! You’d better not spill the beans!
