有好消息與朋友分享，或者希望引起朋友的注意時，可以用較誇張的語氣說：
You'll never guess – I'm getting married next month!
You won't believe this – I got the job!
Have you heard – our favorite rock band is performing this weekend!
在交談中聽到令人驚訝的消息，可以用驚嘆的語氣反應：
No way!
You're kidding!
You're joking!
Really?!
I can't believe that!
That's terrific / terrible / shocking! （太棒了 / 可怕 / 令人震惊）
"That's terrible / shocking! " 只用在當你聽到不好的消息時，例如朋友告訴你，他遇到的可怕經歷或意外等。其他短語例子則是好、壞消息兩者皆適用。
3、與朋友安排計劃
一般朋友見面時都會同時計劃下次出遊或約會時間，你可以建議說：
Let's get together.
Let's hang out！
Let's go out tonight. What do you reckon?
How about going to the cinema / park / library?
Let's go window shopping.（"我們去逛街吧！"）
Let's paint the town red!（"讓我們出去盡情狂歡吧！"）
對朋友提出的建議，可以如此回答：
Ok! Count me in!
Sounds good！
Great, see you then!
Wonderful!
Cool, see you there!
Let's play it by ear.
"Play it by ear"原本是指在沒有樂譜可看的情況下，憑藉著耳朵與對旋律的記憶，把聽過的曲子彈奏出來。後來就引申為 「未經事先刻意安排，視當時情況而定」，也解釋為「到時再說吧！」。
對約會不確定或是不能出席：
Maybe, I'm not sure yet.
Let me get back to you.
Sorry, I have something else on.
Sorry, I'm really busy right now.
