33年前的1983年，來自紐西蘭的秦季靈（音，Geeling Ching）還是個年方23歲的花樣女孩，在澳洲雪梨（Sydney）一家餐廳端盤子。有一天，星運從天而降，她被選中演出一部音樂影片（MV）。
哪一首歌？〈中國女孩〉（China Girl）；誰唱的？英國一代搖滾奇才大衛鮑伊（David Bowie）。一首歌之後是一段情，雖然短暫如蒙，但是改變了秦季靈的一生。
這個月10日，大衛鮑伊肝癌過世，享壽69歲，噩耗震撼全球歌迷。當時秦季靈正在紐西蘭大城奧克蘭（Auckland）看一場網球比賽，手機突然間響個不停。
33年前初遇大衛鮑伊時，秦季靈早已是他的歌迷，房間裡貼著他的海報，唱片櫃裡有他的專輯。她接受《美聯社》訪問時說：「大衛鮑伊有一種不屬於這個世界的氣質。他很美，就是很美。」
〈中國女孩〉的MV在雪梨的唐人街拍攝，嘲諷西方世界對亞洲人的刻板印象，大衛鮑伊形容那是針對種族歧視「非常簡單、非常直接」的駁斥，後來拿到當年MTV的「最佳男性影片獎」。不過原始版之中有一段海灘上的火辣調情，在許多國家遭到禁播，包括秦季靈的祖國紐西蘭。
秦季靈回憶，拍攝那一段MV時，她和當時36歲的大衛鮑伊都裸身上陣，但是一點都不羅曼蒂克，「為了趕上日出的畫面，我們凌晨3點就起來拍攝。那是我一生最不性感的時刻。」
那天海邊風寒，她喝了好幾口海水，劇組人員忙著趕走好奇的民眾。她一個不小心，頭撞到大衛鮑伊的臉，還好沒撞斷他的鼻子。
但是，大衛鮑伊的才智、魅力、與歌迷互動時輕鬆自在的風采，還是擄獲了秦季靈。
影片殺青之後，大衛鮑伊邀請她共赴歐洲，參加他的巡迴演出。她搭上大衛鮑伊的私人噴射機，親眼看到歌迷如何為他瘋狂。她說：「完完全全地超現實。」
這段情並沒有維持多久，秦季靈回到南半球，但是她的一生已然改變。她演了幾部戲，包括《衝鋒飛車隊３》（Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome）中的一個小角色，但後來還是回到家鄉，如今是一位餐廳經理。
2007年11月，她再次遠渡重洋，不過這回是到美國參加紐約市馬拉松（New York City Marathon），抵達終點線時，她的耳機裡傳來的音樂是大衛鮑伊的專輯《英雄》（Heroes）。
當年的露水姻緣結束之後，秦季靈長期不曾與大衛鮑伊聯絡。直到2004年，大衛鮑伊到紐西蘭開演唱會，秦季靈也去了，來到後台，儘管睽違21年，正在拍照的大衛鮑伊還是一眼就認出她。
秦季靈回憶：「他整個臉龐亮了起來，從拍照場地走過來，對我說：『季靈，妳來了，太美好了！』」
