介係詞一直都是許多人的罩門，今天老師救救我單元要來跟大家說明 with 這個介係詞其中一個很常見的用法。照慣例，我們先來看看以下這位學生的問題：
老師您好，請幫我解析這個句子：
Heather was sitting there enjoying the sunshine with her eyes closed.
我明白前半部的 Heather was sitting there enjoying the sunshine...是指「Heather 坐在那裡享受陽光」，但是後面的 with 我就不知道怎麼解釋了，想請問老師這裡是什麼用法。
with + 名詞
With 這個介係詞其中一個用法是用來帶出一個特質，因此後面可以加上一個名詞，通常可以理解成「有著...的」。例如：
Did you see the girl with red hair?（你有看到有著紅頭髮的那個女孩嗎？）
因為只有講 the girl 的話還不夠清楚，因此加上 with red hair 來表示「有著紅頭髮的」，這樣的女孩。
再舉幾個例子：
I like the one with red stripes. How about you?（我喜歡有紅條紋的那個。那你呢？）
I'm looking for books with CDs. Could you tell me where they are?（我在找有 CD 的書。你可以告訴我它們在哪裡嗎？）
I want a mocha with an extra shot of espresso.（我想要一杯有多一份濃縮咖啡的摩卡。）
The boy with a fascinating smile really left an impression on me.（那位有著迷人微笑的男孩真的讓我印象很深刻。）
with + 受詞 + 過去分詞 / 現在分詞
除了以上的用法之外，with 還可以先接上一個受詞之後，在後面接上過去分詞或是現在分詞，說明受詞的狀態。其中過去分詞表示被動，現在分詞則表示主動，這個時候的 with 不一定有特定的解釋，需要依照上下文去想像情境。例如：
I saw him standing there with his arms folded in front of his chest.（我看到他手抱胸站在那裡。）
→ With 後面的受詞是 his arm，後面的動詞為 fold（折），但因為手臂是被折起來的（即抱胸動作），所以動詞 fold 必須用過去分詞形式的 folded。
I was relaxing at the beach with my hair blowing in the wind.（我在沙灘上休息，頭髮隨風飄舞。）
→ With 後面的受詞是 my hair，後面動詞為 blow（隨風飄動），但因為我的頭髮是主動去做隨風飄動這個動作，所以 blow 要用現在分詞形式的 blowing。
再舉幾個例子：
The water has nowhere to go with the pipe clogged like this.（水管堵成這樣，水沒有地方可以流掉。）
The garden looks like a real paradise with the flowers blooming so beautifully.（這座花園花團錦簇，看起來就像真的天堂。）
with + 受詞 + 地方副詞
這個用法類似於上面講的用法，可以在受詞的後面加上地方副詞，表示受詞的位置狀態。例如：
Don't walk with your hands in your pockets.（手不要插著口袋走路。）
因為你的手的狀態是在「口袋裡的」，所以後面直接接上副詞片語 in your pockets 就好囉。
以下再舉幾個例子：
I can't see the stage with a tall guy in front of me.（有位高個男子在我前面，我看不到舞台。）
It's hard to concentrate on my studies with my younger sister in the same room. She’s too noisy.（我妹妹在同一間房間裡讓我很難專心在我要讀的書上面。她太吵了。）
How could Fiona live there with a mess all over the place? Doesn’t she think it’s gross?（Fiona 怎麼能這樣住在到處都是髒亂的地方？她都不覺得那很噁嗎？）
