六月大家最期待的假期莫非就是端午節啦！放端午連假要找外國朋友一起出去玩！
但你知道要怎麼用英文和外國朋友介紹端午節的習俗嗎？像是香包、立蛋的英文要怎麼說呢？
今天就讓 Amber 跟 Ken 一起聊聊端午節吧！
Ken 是 Amber 在美國交換學生的時候認識的美國朋友，原本他預計這個六月要來台灣旅行，但由於疫情爆發，這趟台灣之行只好取消，於是 Amber 就打視訊給 Ken 聊聊近況…
Amber: Hi Ken, how are you? Such a pity that you can’t come visit Taiwan this June.
Amber: 嗨 Ken，你最近過得好嗎？好可惜你今年六月不能來台灣。Ken: Hey Amber, I’m good, just staying home all day long. I’d really wanted to experience the Dragon Boat Festival in Taiwan this year.
Ken: 嗨 Amber，我很好，只是一整天都待在家，我今年真的很想去台灣體驗端午節。Amber: Don’t be sad. You still have a chance to come visit in the future. Do you know much about the Dragon Boat Festival?
Amber: 不要難過，你還有機會可以來，關於端午節你知道多少？Ken: Well, I know that there is a dragon boat race every year and also that everyone will eat rice dumplings on that day.
Ken: 這個嘛，我知道每年端午節都會有划龍舟比賽，還有大家都會在那天吃粽子。Amber: Yeah, but do you know why we have these customs?
Amber: 對，但你知道為何會有這些習俗嗎？Ken: No, can you tell me?
Ken: 不知道，你可以告訴我嗎？Amber: Sure, so the Dragon Boat Festival aims to memorialize the ancient poet Qu Yuan, who is very famous for being a patriot. People loved him, but one day he was exiled by the emperor because some officials started to spread rumors about him. Eventually, Qu Yuan took his own life by jumping into the Milou River.
Amber: 好啊，端午節是為了紀念詩人屈原，他是一個非常有名的愛國者，人民都很愛戴他，但是有天他被皇帝流放因為有些官員散播他的不實謠言，最後，屈原跳進汨羅江自殺。Ken: What a sad story!
Ken: 好悲傷的故事！
dragon boat race (n.) 划龍舟比賽
端午節最有名的就是划龍舟啦！「划龍舟」的英文就是 dragon boat race，其中 race 這個字可以當名詞表示「比賽」，而 race 通常是指競速型的比賽。
There’s a swimming race at school next week.
下週學校會有游泳比賽。
rice dumpling (n.) 粽子
端午節必吃的就是粽子，因為粽子是米做的，因此英文就是 rice dumpling。那麼「包」粽子的動詞應該用什麼呢？你可以用 make 這個字表示「製作」。
My mom makes homemade rice dumplings every year.
我媽媽每年都自己包粽子。
patriot (n.) 愛國者
屈原是歷史上有名的愛國者，「愛國者」的英文你可以用 patriot 這的單字，其反義詞是 traitor (叛國者)。
Qu Yuan is a notable patriot.

在 Amber 跟 Ken 介紹完端午節的故事後，她繼續跟他介紹其他端午節的習俗…
Amber: So, to avoid Qu Yuan’s body being eaten, people started to race dragon boats and feed the fish rice dumplings. And that’s why we have these customs nowadays.
Amber: 所以，為了避免屈原的身體被吃掉，人民開始划龍舟跟餵魚吃粽子，那就是為什麼我們今天會有這些習俗。Ken: I see. Are there any more custom related to the Dragon Boat Festival?
Ken: 了解，那端午節還有其他習俗嗎？Amber: Yes, For example, people will carry scented sachets to protect themselves from evil.
Amber: 有，還有其他一些，像是，人們會帶香包來保護自己不被惡靈傷害。Ken: Wow, that’s really cool.
Ken: 哇，好酷喔。Amber: Also, at noon, people will balance eggs, which is also meant to bring good luck for the coming year.
Amber: 還有，在中午的時候，大家會立蛋，代表一年的好運。Ken: That’s sounds interesting. I really want to try egg balancing and rice dumplings on my own when I visit Taiwan next year!
Ken: 聽起來很有趣，我明年一定會去台灣真的很想要親自體驗立蛋跟吃粽子！Amber: Deal! I’ll show you around then.
Amber: 一言為定！我到時候會帶你到處看看。
scented sachet (n.) 香包
端午節的時候我們也會自己縫製小香包避邪，而「香包」的英文就是 sachet /sæˈʃe/ ，它有「小袋子」的意思，我們也可以在 sachet 前面加上形容詞 scented (有香味的)，scented sachet，表示「香包」。
We are asked to carry a scented sachet with us by our parents on Dragon Boat Festival.
我們被父母要求要在端午節這天帶著香包。
protect A from B (phr.) 保護 A 不受到 B 傷害
香包的作用就是要保護我們不受到惡靈的傷害，「保護 A 不受到 B 傷害」我們可以用 protect A from B 這個片語，其中 protect 是動詞，表示「保護」。
Wearing helmets can protect you from getting hurt while riding motorcycles.
騎機車戴安全帽可以保護你不受到傷害。
balance eggs (phr.) 立蛋
立蛋也是端午節一個很好玩的習俗，你知道應該怎麼跟外國人解釋「立蛋」嗎？你可以用 balance (使平衡) 這個動詞，balance eggs (立蛋)，或是名詞 egg balancing。
Egg balancing is always my favorite part of the Dragon Boat Festival.
立蛋一直都是我端午節最喜歡的部份。
