kill sb. with kindness
即「過度寵壞某人」之意。出自喜劇《馴悍記》(The Taming of the Shrew)，原指男主角 Petruchio 要柔性馴服、控制剽悍的女主角 Katherina，才能使婚姻愉快，而現今的用法則不同，除了可以解釋成「寵壞」，還有「因付出太多好意而讓對方懷疑其目的」的意思。
Parents shouldn’t let their children eat too much unhealthy food or sit all day playing computer games, otherwise they're killing their kids with kindness.
父母不該讓小孩吃太多不健康的食品，或是整天坐著打電動，否則會寵壞孩子。
其實很多現代作品，包含歌詞、詩，以及散文等都會引用這些俚語，看完後是否覺得文學沒那麼遙不可及了呢？學習的基礎就建立在模仿，並將其運用上，連莎士比亞都曾在《仲夏夜之夢》的台詞中引用這句有名的古老俚語： (the) apple of one's eyes (某人的摯愛)。
