近來「同人小說（fanfiction）」有個字突然火紅了，這個字叫做"ship"。你一定覺得奇怪，ship不就是「大船」或者「出貨」嗎，有什麼流行本事？這個字跟船沒有關係，而是從relationship當中的ship來的，可以解為「希望誰和誰成為一對」或「送作堆」，例如：
I am totally shipping Jack and Rose.（我真希望傑克和蘿絲在一起。）
Ship這個「粉絲語言」在fanfiction竄紅不難想像，社群媒體時代的內容是觀眾和作者共同創作，粉絲的意見經常是劇情發展的推手。2014年牛津字典正式收納ship這個用法，解釋為：
"Support or have a particular interest in a romantic pairing between two characters in a fictional series, often when this relationship is one portrayed by fans rather than depicted in the series itself."（支持小說中某兩個角色成為一對，而作者原意可能不是這樣。）
Ship這個字有趣，在中文裡的船原來也有類似的延伸空間。中文也有同船共渡的說法。在英文裡，還常用ship表示一個企業、機會或所處的現況。來看看這個字道地的商業用法。

1. a sinking ship
你以為：一艘正在沉沒的船
其實是：正在走下坡的公司
This company is a sinking ship and they can not hire any new employees.（這家公司正在下坡中，請不起新員工。）
2. jump ship
你以為：跳船
其實是：跳槽
I am thinking of jumping ship since our company is already a sinking ship.（因為我們公司營運不佳，我打算跳槽。）
3. run a tight ship
你以為：跑船
其實是：管理的紀律嚴明
The new CEO runs a tight ship, so he can save the company from falling apart.（公司新的CEO實行嚴格紀律，所以他有本事拯救公司瓦解的危機。）
