團隊剛完成一個大型project終於能卸下重擔，好好放鬆一下，興奮期待的氣氛頓時蔓延開來，John跳出來提議下班要去聚餐，大聲說道：
〝Except for Sean and Tina, who else would come？〞
聽了以後，你猜Sean和Tina到底會不會一起去聚餐呢？
答案是不會。如果John當時說的是：〝Besides Sean and Tina, who else would come？〞就是說Sean和Tina也會參加聚餐。
Besides和Except是「包含」和「不包含」的概念，看看這兩個句子：
Besides passion, a successful person will also have qualities like vision and time management.
一個成功的人士除了熱情之外，還兼具遠見和時間管理的特質。
I like the smartphone except for its poor Wi-Fi connection.
除了無線收訊很爛之外，我滿喜歡這隻手機的。
「除了…」還有這些用法：
1.In addition to
例句：In addition to its amazing functions, the product’s appearance seized everyone’s attention on the day it was released.
除了令人讚嘆的功能外，這項產品的外型在推出的第一天即吸引大眾的眼球。
和besides一樣，in addition to…有「包含…在內」的意思。Addition前面的add- 字首就是「加上」，addition是名詞，指增加的事物。
2.Other than
例句：Other than the terms above, we accept your offer.
除了以上的條款外，我們接受你的提議。
3.Apart from／Aside from
這兩個用法比較中性，兩種特性一次兼具，就要看說話的時候想要表達的是什麼意思。
例句：Apart/aside from a few scratches, the car was undamaged.
除了幾道刮痕，車子沒有什麼損傷。
Apart/aside from being too small, the location of this apartment is not ideal.這間公寓不只太大，地點也不理想。
