曾經有個學生工作上需要接洽國外客戶，他習慣會和客戶說Thank you a lot！講了十幾年最後才被老師糾正過來，因為Thank you a lot.聽起來很誇張也很不自然，像是跟很熟的朋友開玩笑地說：Thank you. A LOT！

若音調講不對還會讓人覺得你在諷刺對方幫倒忙：「還真是謝謝你喔！」對客戶還是用Thank you.／Thank you very much.最保險。

Example：

If someone spills a cup of coffee over you either deliberately or accidentally. You might reply "Oh, thanks a lot！" 這樣夠諷刺吧！

無論是受人幫助或是佔用了別人的時間，中文幾乎都是用一句概括的「謝謝」來表達，外國人則習慣具體強調感謝之處，謝謝你的耐心、支持、合作，這些都記得用for當介系詞，後面可以加名詞或直接加V-ing。

感謝你的時間

（X）Thank your time
（O）Thanks for your time.／Thank you for your time.

謝謝你幫忙我們

（X）Thank your help us.
（O）Thanks for helping us.／Thank you for helping us.

謝謝你用Thanks／Thank you，感謝某人用Thank

我得為此向Howard道謝

（O）I have to thank Peter for this.

謝天謝地你在家

（X）Thanks God you are home.

（O）Thank God you are home.

謝謝你，主，我通過考試了。

（O）Thanks, God. I passed the exam.

當我們去到外國朋友家做客，對方問：Would you like some Coke？你可以直接單用"Thank you."表達好的，謝謝你。

應門、接電話

A：I'll get the door.／I'll get the phone.
B：Thank you.

找錢的時候

A：Here's your change.
B：Thank you.

如果你直覺的答案是講nothing（沒什麼），那就是被中文的文法所干擾了，以下整理出許多不同的回應句，讓對方留下良好的印象。

A：Thank you for your gifts. You shouldn't have.

（X）Nothing.
（O）You're welcome.
（O）My pleasure.

A：Thanks for fixing my iPhone.

（O）Don't mention it.
（O）No problem.
（O）Not at all.
（O）Glad to help.
（O）Anytime.
（O）No big deal.
